How do I record my videos? – Canon 100D and Elgato Ring Light

Hello again, dear readers!

If you are veterans in this blog, you will already know that I like to record videos painting. For those of you who are new, here are links to some of these posts.

In my beginnings with watercolor, it helped me a lot to see how other artists used the technique, how they applied color layer by layer. With these types of videos showing you my process I want to help you improve little by little just as I did back in the day (and still do today).

As I told you in the post «Dot Card de Schmincke – My favorite colors«, I have had some problems with my Huawei P20 Pro mobile, it no longer works as well as it did at the beginning and the image quality has lost a lot of sharpness.

Thinking about how to solve the problem, I decided to use my reflex camera to record my videos. I just had to find a mount that would anchor to the table and support the weight of my camera.

It was not easy to find the ideal support, most of the table supports are very flimsy and do not support the weight of a camera of these characteristics (they are designed for smartphones). I also didn't want a normal tripod, since I wanted to keep it fixed and it's a hassle to have the legs getting in the way all the time.

Finally, after many hours of research, Alicia Aradilla gave me the solution. She uses this model of ring light from the brand Elgato, and, finally, I bought it too.

They have it at Amazon, although I bought it in PC Components. Here are the links so you can compare prices.

As I told you before, the camera I use is the Canon 100D, I've had it for 9 years now and I love it! Unlike other cameras with similar characteristics, it is much smaller. It weighs little and is very manageable, especially if, like me, you have small hands.

Now that I also use it to record, its reduced size and weight are other advantages to consider. The mount works best with light cameras.

It is not a camera for professional photographers, far from it! In fact it is very basic, it has some manual controls such as diaphragm opening, shutter speed or iso.

Finally, I had to buy an articulated arm to lengthen the support, it was not included with the ring light, and it was necessary to be able to record the center of the table.

There are two different models: Multi Mount S and Multi Mount L . I had enough with the little one.

So far today's post, I hope you liked it.

Happy week!
