DaVinci Casaneo Brushes: Experience + Landscape Using Only These Brushes

Happy Sunday dear readers!

If you follow me on social networks, you will already know that tomorrow I start my holidays in Peñíscola. Since this week's post is about brushes, I've taken the opportunity to do a demo in real time and without cuts! of a landscape of this beautiful little town.

Let's go with the brushes!

A few weeks ago I was telling you about my Escoda Versatil brushes. If you haven't read it yet, I recommend you stop by to take a look after reading this post. I leave the link here. My brushes Escoda Versátil.

In case you don't know them yet, these brushes are the DaVinci Casaneo series 498 (the mop type) and 1290 (the rigger type).

I bought them at Artemiranda and they cost from €7.05 for the rigger type up to €27.24 the mop type from number 4. Here are the links if you want to take a look.

One of the things that I like the most about these brushes is that they are made of synthetic hair (cruelty free 💪) imitating natural squirrel hair.

DAVINCI CASANEO RIGGER TYPE BRUSH SERIES 1290

Despite being a number 4, this brush has a very fine tip.

As you can see in the video, it is my savior when it comes to doing fine lines and details.

It retains a lot of water so it is perfect for making endless lines.

BRUSH TYPE mop number 0 DAVINCI CASANEO SERIES 498

Being an imitation of natural squirrel hair, the strands of these brushes are outrageously deformed, not being appropriate for small details.

In the video you can see me suffering a bit with the little houses in the background, it was impossible to shape them!

This brush is perfect for skies and washes of formats no larger than A4. We can also use it for small stains on larger formats.

For my way of painting, of the 3 sizes, it is my favorite.

BRUSH TYPE mop number 2 DAVINCI CASANEO SERIES 498

Although I personally use it less than the previous one, I consider that this brush is perfect for covering large surfaces in formats smaller than A3.

The use that I give it is, mainly to moisten the paper when I am going to work wet and, later, to apply the first stains of watercolor.

BRUSH TYPE mop number 4 DAVINCI CASANEO SERIES 498

I hardly use this brush. It is too big for the size of watercolors that I usually do.

Although… you never know!… The same thing a few years from now, I'll get excited about the large format.

EXPERIENCE PAINTING ONLY WITH THESE 4 BRUSHES

Now it's time to draw conclusions from the experience of painting only with these 4 brushes.

If you watch the video, you can see that the number 4 mop is not used at all. So actually I paint the watercolor with 3 brushes.

There have been moments of suffering, especially, as I told you before, when detailing the little houses in the background. In fact, I'm not very happy with the end result. I have had to use the pen to be able to define the lines and elements such as windows, doors, …

I have also had problems with the control of the water in the sky, I almost made cauliflowers!

I have found it difficult to control the pigment/water ratio of the brush at certain points in the execution of the watercolor.

So far today's post, below I leave you the video of the complete process in case you want to see it. (There is a piece that the camera stopped recording 🤨)

I hope you liked it,

Until next Sunday!
